12ga AH Fox marked “FE Special” and is truly a special gun in all respects.
This gun is listed in the AH Fox factory record cards as an A grade WITHOUT ejectors and is currently an EJECTOR gun in complete F grade regalia, wood and metal. The serial numbers match throughout the gun, inside and out including the inside faces of the ejector rods. It is beyond my comprehension why a person would upgrade a non-ejector gun and turn it into an ejector gun when they could have started with an ejector gun in the first place for a platform for an upgrade. Perhaps this gun went back to the Fox factory for all the work??…we may never know. It is in the record as being shipped in Dec 1912. The history of this gun is unfortunately unknown to me as it has come from an estate with the prior owner leaving no record.
The barrels are marked “4” for 4 weight (Fox’s lightest). RT bore .628 with .011 choke. Lf bore .625 with .041 choke. Min wall thickness .028. Weighing in at just 7 pounds 4oz this gun is a delight to handle with excellent shooting dimensions and straight grip.
All metalwork and woodwork is of the highest execution. The receiver is rebated & scalloped in the 2nd generation engraving fashion which is correct. 7 gold inlays in addition to “SAFE” and serial number in gold.
The gun remains in near new condition. This gun is being offered below what the replacement cost would be if the quality of the work could be duplicated. What an exceptional gun to be used and enjoyed and admired by all who see it and handle it.
